Even an older hot tub can be smart

MADASH Balboa Spa Gateway adds convenient smartphone control to your compatible hot tub. Check the water temperature, adjust the target temperature, and control the pumps, air blower or lighting – without having to stand at the control panel.

The Gateway sends commands to the Balboa control unit without replacing its original control logic. The Balboa unit remains responsible for heating and operating your hot tub.

Remote control – no smart home required

Don't have Home Assistant or another smart home system? Use MADASH SPA Cloud. Create an account, add your Gateway using its device ID and pairing code, and control your hot tub even when you are away from home.

In a supported browser, you can add the MADASH SPA web app to your phone's home screen and open it like a regular app. No MQTT server of your own or router port forwarding is required. Remote control requires an internet connection for the Gateway and an available Cloud service.

Control at home, directly in your browser

For local control, simply open the Gateway's address on a phone, tablet or computer connected to the same network. No additional app installation and no need to use the Cloud.

The clear interface displays the current and target temperatures, pump, air blower, lighting and filtration status, and the operating mode. Available controls and readings depend on the selected model and your hot tub's equipment.

Set your target temperature in one step

20 °C → 30 °C

Want to change the setting from 20 to 30 °C? Enter 30 °C and confirm. There is no need to keep pressing a button in half-degree steps – the Gateway automatically sends the required sequence of commands to the Balboa panel.

Direct target temperature adjustment is available through the local interface, MQTT and the updated MADASH SPA Cloud interface. The firmware accepts settings from 20–40 °C in 0.5 °C steps. This changes the target setting; actual heating still depends on your hot tub's capabilities and operating mode.

Pumps, air massage, lighting and operating modes

With the GS523DZ + VL801D version, you can control Pump 1, Pump 2, the air massage blower (Blower) and lighting (Light). You can also view filtration status, temperatures and the Standard, Economy and Sleep modes.

The dedicated Change Mode function sends the required combination of commands to change the operating mode for you. Individual Up, Down and Mode buttons are also available.

Home Assistant and other MQTT systems

Already have a smart home? Connect the Gateway to your own MQTT broker. With MQTT Discovery, Home Assistant can automatically discover supported entities once the connection is configured and discovery is enabled.

Home Assistant is not the only option. The same MQTT interface can be used with Node-RED, openHAB, ioBroker or another solution with suitable MQTT support. Configure your own automations, schedules and notifications in your chosen smart home system.

An MQTT Manual is built directly into the Gateway. It shows commands, status messages, examples and the actual topics based on your configured Base Topic. The manual is available without Home Assistant.

Choose MADASH Cloud or local MQTT in the settings. These two modes cannot be active simultaneously in the current firmware; local web control remains available in either mode.

Straightforward setup and updates

The Gateway connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It can obtain its IP address and network settings automatically through DHCP; a static IP address is also available for advanced installations. A dedicated Wi-Fi access point allows configuration when a connection has not been set up or cannot be established.

The firmware interface is available in Czech, English, German, Russian, French and Italian. Firmware updates can be performed through the web interface.

Compatibility

This product version is designed for the Balboa GS523DZ control unit with the VL801D Deluxe Series control panel.

The universal firmware also includes a GS510SZ + VL700S profile. For this combination, the appropriate Gateway hardware version and wiring must be verified before ordering. The presence of a firmware profile alone does not confirm compatibility with every Balboa board or panel.

The number of controllable functions and available status readings varies by model. Please check the model numbers of both your control unit and control panel before ordering.
